KYLES 10 MILES

09/09/23 – New race for me today at Kyles 10 Miles. It is what is says it is 10miles. Road race starting outside the Royal An Lochan Hotel in Tighnabruaich. I headed over with Fiona and Morag from the Epic Crew, the whole way debating the weather…please sun don’t come out. Think none of us could have coped with yesterdays heatwave. Got there, sorted, bite to eat then the usual loo queue.

Saw loads of folk I knew and chatted to loads more. Running is such a welcoming community. Bang on 12 noon the horn went and we were off. It was straight up a hill, luckily I quite like hills. The route was very undulating as we went anti clockwise round the Ardlamont Point. Views were spectacular if a little muffled by the cloud. I’d decided not to carry water so had to use the water stops. Aim was to drink the water and not wear it…I failed. New fuel too as I decided to try a different VOOM Nutrition bar. It did the trick. I passed a pig sty and didn’t get time to get the camera out but knew I’d need to head back later. Carry Farm was a blessing with a hose water spray to run under, so cooling.

I held 1st female until 9 miles when Louise ran past and I just had nothing more I could give to catch her. New aim, don’t let anyone else overtake me! I managed it and ran to the finish outside the Kames Hotel in 1:12:32. 13th overall, 2nd female and 2nd FV40. Fantastic wooden trophy too.

Rest of the crew came in not long after and we headed to the sea for a cool down. Now it was time for the best bit, the BBQ at the Kames hotel, beer, cuppa and also yummy cake.

By now hubby, Sophie and Tilly had joined us (Emily at a swim comp). We drove the route in reverse just to find the pigs as Sophie loves pigs! Tilly thought they might taste nice. Next animal we came across on the road home was a herd of cows, she thought they might taste nice too. Well done everyone!
