20/04/25 – What a run today! I’m over in Millport so suggested the EpicCrew come and do a run from Largs. I spend a lot of time in Millport but never get a chance to try out the hills across the water in Largs so this was a chance. I’d borrowed a route from Jo and wanted to try it out. Start time was all dependant on the ferries time. 0830 was the first one from Cumbrae so I was on it (did run to the ferry for my first wee 5km). Met the crew on the mainland then off for a run…
We headed up the along the road of Largs, do have to say that Flatt Road is not flat, for about 1km before we entered Hawkshill estate. It was a long undulating trail all the way up for approx 4km. The Gogo burn was on our right as we went. My part was remembering to turn round to look at the view as we went up. The higher we got the more the view opened up across the Firth of Clyde. Turning point was when we headed right off the track and onto the trod. Fantastic running with lots of cairns to stop at. The view just kept getting better and I did say at one point ‘I can see my house from here’ and I could. Theo and I were discussing the trod slope on the grass and how it would be easy to slide. Think that tempted fate and then did some acrobatic act to end up rolling and on my back. My aim was not to get my bottom wet and I managed to end up in a glute bridge. We kept running downhill towards the coast until we made it into more curated land. At that point we found steps, lots of teeny tiny steps all the way down to the road. We ran past Douglas park then Anderson park before onto the promenade back to the ferry. With ferry times it meant I had time to grab a cuppa a scone to refuel on the ferry before my run home. Brilliant morning and new route.
