02/04/25 – Wednesday nights are usually my hill running night with Westerlands but tonight I was on parenting taxi duty. Option was to hang around Springburn swimming pool for 2 hrs, going for a run round the streets for 2 hrs or see if I could get a better trail route done. I know Bishopbriggs well but there was a route that I’ve always wanted to recce but never have managed so tonight was the night.
I headed over to the Leisuredrome and parked there. Frist up was onto the Forth and Clyde canal eastwards. After a couple of km I came to the bit where the canal boats are with Cadder church to the left. I took the road to the right of the church and headed down to Cadder golf course. When reaching the golf course I continued straight ahead along a trail until hit the River Kelvin. There is a bridge here that crosses the Kelvin and over towards Balmore but I knew I didn’t want to do this. Instead I went right and continued running with the river to my left until I reached Balmore Road at Torrance. Across the road at the lights and then left round into Torrance until found the play park. Here I found a little trail at the top of the park. I followed it right and kept going. I’m not sure if it used to be an old railway but looked like it. It eventually became surrounded by fields and was lovely. Eventually I hit a junction where there was a kind of sign pointing right for Kirkintilloch. This skirted round a golf course and eventually over a bridge before popping out at some houses in Kirkie. Across the main road then right, left and through the next houses until I made my way onto the canal again. This time I turned right and it was straight back to the start. Beautiful 13km with hardly any traffic and quite flat too.
