After a weekend in Spain I was greeted with good old Scottish wind and rain. Back out with Westerlands CC and an adventure to Meikle Binn. I normally go from Crow Road so this was a new route for me. Maybe choosing to run it in the dark wasn’t the best idea as I don’t really know where we went to my description probably isn’t the best.
From Queenzieburn we went up the road, then track and finally through fields to Birkenburn reservoir. From here we went down and into the woods where we came across Jim’s hut (if you know you know). Quick refuel and wee read of the book before we continued through the woods, the fungi, across little bridges and then up to Meikle Binn. By now we were getting battered by the wind and rain. We had come this far so no turning back. Up to the trig, quick pic and then about turn to get back to the more protected woods. By now it was definitely head torches on, jackets on and soggy feet. From here it was and about turn and back to the start.
Great adventure and new route to Meikle Binn found. 12.8km and 694m elevation.
