SCONE PALACE STANDARD DUATHLON

21/04/24 – Take 2 writing this as lost the first one 🤦‍♀️. New event for me today at @wilddeerevents Scone Palace Standard Duathlon. Been trying to get my Duathlon times up so more adaptions to my kit. I’m now trying to buy speed 😉. Aero helmet and now go faster wheels that Mary lent me. Bike made the whoosh noise now. I just need the mid life crisis to buy the go faster bike (anyone want to buy me a fast bike?)

Pre race and got base was just next to the Palace. Usual debate in my head deciding if I wanted to wear arm sleeves or base layer. Base layer won with 5min to go. The usual toilet Q but they didn’t start the race until the Q was gone. I’d had the trainer debate at home and brought the road shoes, wrong decision given it was grass, trail, gravel, road, track 👟.

First up was the 10km run. My legs felt so slow, I questioned why I was there and why my legs felt so heavy. Luckily they woke up at about 7km and decided to pick the pace up. Next was into transition and grabbed the bike. Priority was to get fuel in on the first uphill. The route was nearly 40km with 2 loops. It was undulating with over 400m elevation. It just rained the whole time but route was lovely taking in country roads. Finally back in for the 5km. Usually I leave my bike shoes attached to my bike and run into transition in socks but not this time. It was so wet. Transition could have been quicker but my hands just didn’t work and couldn’t get my helmet off. Once on the course it took until 2km until my feet regained feeling but run felt good. Turns up this was a quicker pace than run 1. I could see another girl just in front of me but she was just too fast. As such I came in under 2.5hrs and 3rd female.

I very quickly grabbed my @dryrobe and a cuppa to warm up before getting my bike and heading back to the van for a full change. Quick home then back out to watch eldest in a hockey match. Nicely asked hubby if he could clean the bike…HE SAID YES (imagine me fainting).
